How I Met the Devotees
by Alisha
When I was four years old, I was walking with my Mom in downtown Victoria. I saw a magazine on the street, and for some reason, was drawn to running into traffic to pick it up. My Mom was not exactly impressed with this, and told me to throw the magazine into the garbage. But I cried and wouldn't do it. I loved the pictures of Lord Caitanya and Nityananda on the cover. I didn't know who they were though, and thought they were two beautiful ladies. I kept the Back to Godhead magazine and put the pictures up all over my wall.
My Mom got interested and started to read it, and she started chanting that summer. We met some devotees who invited us to a Sunday feast. I loved the altar, and that night when we came home, my sisters and I made an altar in our room. And the next day when my Mom made breakfast, we asked her to offer the food. From then on, we offered all our food. We started to go to the morning program at the preaching center and then moved in with the devotees! That was ten years ago, and although a lot has gone on since then, I am so grateful to Krsna and Srila Prabhupada for leading me to the path back to Godhead.
