Srila Prabhupada sailed from Calcutta to New York in 1965 on board the Jaladuta steamship. His first stop outside India was in Port Said, Egypt on the Suez Canal (1979 photo of Port Said docks).

Once a curio shop ("Matchless Gifts") it became the first headquarters for Srila Prabhupada's International Society for Krishna Consciousness. It has since been renovated and reopened by the devotees in 1991 -- 25 years after ISKCON was originally founded.
