Save the World, Part 1
(Srila Prabhupada preaching Krishna Consciousness, Tompkins Square Park, New York, 1966)

"Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam predicts that in Kali-yuga the government will be entrusted with dasyu-dharma, which means the occupational duty of rogues and thieves. Modern heads of state are rogues and thieves who plunder the citizens instead of giving them protection. Rogues and thieves plunder without regard for law, but in this age of Kali, as stated in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the lawmakers themselves plunder the citizens. The next prediction to be fulfilled, which is already coming to pass, is that because of the sinful activities of the citizens and the government, rain will become increasingly scarce. Gradually there will be complete drought and no production of food grains. People will be reduced to eating flesh and seeds, and many good, spiritually inclined people will have to forsake their homes because they will be too harassed by drought, taxation and famine. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is the only hope to save the world from such devastation. It is the most scientific and authorized movement for the actual welfare of the whole human society."

(Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.2.1, Purport)

"At the present moment practically the entire world is afraid of rogues and nondevotees; therefore this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is started to save the world from irreligious principles. Everyone should cooperate with this movement in order to bring about actual peace and happiness in the world."

(Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 4.28.48, Purport)

"Gradually, throughout the entire world, human society is losing interest in the perfection of life. Indeed, men are living like cats and dogs, spoiling the duration of their human lives by actually preparing to transmigrate again to the degraded species among the 8,400,000 forms of life. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is anxious to serve human society by teaching people to perform devotional service, which can save a human being from being degraded again to animal life. As already stated by Prahlāda Mahārāja, bhāgavata-dharma consists of śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇaṁ pāda-sevanam/ arcanaṁ vandanaṁ dāsyaṁ sakhyam ātma-nivedanam (SB 7.5.23). In all the schools, colleges and universities, and at home, all children and youths should be taught to hear about the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In other words, they should be taught to hear the instructions of Bhagavad-gītā, to put them into practice in their lives, and thus to become strong in devotional service, free from fear of being degraded to animal life. Following bhāgavata-dharma has been made extremely easy in this age of Kali. The śāstra says:

    harer nāma harer nāma
    harer nāmaiva kevalam
    kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva
    nāsty eva gatir anyathā
    (CC Adi 17.21)

One need only chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. Everyone engaged in the practice of chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra will be completely cleansed, from the core of his heart, and be saved from the cycle of birth and death."

(Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.61, Purport)

"People all over the world are madly engaging in sense gratification and in this way spoiling their human lives, with the risk that in the next life they may become animals or less. Human society should be saved from such a risky civilization and the danger of animalism by awakening to God consciousness, Kṛṣṇa consciousness. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement has been started for this purpose. Therefore unbiased men of the highest echelon should study the principles of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement and fully cooperate with this movement to save human society."

(Caitanya-caritāmṛta Antya 4.98, Purport)

"So our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is to give some benediction to the whole human society. It is not a sectarian so-called religion, sentiment. No. It is a scientific movement. Scientific movement... If you say, 'Why you are interested to save the human society?' That is Kṛṣṇa's business. Kṛṣṇa wants, God wants, that 'All these living entities, they should come back home, back to Godhead. Why they are suffering?' Therefore Kṛṣṇa comes personally.

    paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ
    vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām
    dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya
    sambhavāmi yuge yuge
    (BG 4.8)

Kṛṣṇa is very anxious. We are suffering here, rotting here. We are sons of Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa does not like to see that we shall rot here. He wants, 'Come back home, dance with Me, eat with Me.' But these rascals will not go. They will stick here. 'No, sir. It is very good here. I shall become hog and eat stool. That is very pleasant.'

So this is position. Therefore, because we are Kṛṣṇa conscious, we are servants of God, therefore it is our duty to save this human civilization. You see. Kṛṣṇa wants it."

(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Los Angeles, August 17, 1972)

"This human form of life is meant for athāto brahma jijñāsā, for understanding the Supreme. the Absolute Truth. But if we do not do so, if we simply remain like animal, then again we are going to the animal form of life. Misuse of the opportunity. Then we are... Therefore this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is trying to save people from going down to animal life."

(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Los Angeles, April 24, 1973)

"So this is the position of the world, and they are suffering and they will continue to suffer. Nature will punish them. Yamarāja will take them. That is their next life. So you try to save them. This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement."

(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Vrindavan, September 8, 1975)

"So, my dear boys and girls, about six years ago I came to your country single-handed, with these pair of cymbal. Now you are so many chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. That is my success. It was the prediction of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu,

    pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
    sarvatra pracāra hoibe mora nāma
    (CB Antya-khaṇḍa 4.126)

Lord Caitanya desired that 'In all the towns, in as many towns and villages as they are on the surface of the globe, My name will be broadcast.' He is Kṛṣṇa Himself, svayaṁ kṛṣṇa, kṛṣṇa caitanya-nāmine, simply changing His name as Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. So His prediction will never go in vain. That's a fact.

So my plan was that 'I shall go to America. America is the leading country of the world. If I can convince the younger generation of America, they will take up.' I am old man. I came here at the age of seventy years; now I am seventy-six. So my warning is already there. In 1971, I had a severe heart attack. You know, all. So the mission of Caitanya Mahāprabhu is now in your hand. You are, American boys and girls, very intelligent and graced by Kṛṣṇa. You are not poverty-stricken. You have enough resources, prestige. Everything materially, you are all well-equipped. If you kindly take this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement seriously, your country will be saved, and the whole world will be saved."

(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Los Angeles, May 18, 1972)

"So I especially appeal to the Americans, whose boys and girls are helping me so much: please take this philosophy, try to understand this philosophy. Make your life successful—your country and the whole world. You are helping other parts of the world who are not very much developed with money, with resources.

That is a very good idea. But in your country you do not see how the younger generation are going astray, how they're baffled and confused. You should take care of this. The flower of your country, they are becoming hopeless, confused. Try to save them. And this is the only remedy, Kṛṣṇa consciousness, that can save your country and the whole world."

(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Los Angeles, May 18, 1972)

"So if you actually feel for your country, for your community, for your people, just spread this Kṛṣṇa consciousness. They're dying. You spread this Kṛṣṇa consciousness, they'll come again to life, and everything will be actually beautiful. That is my request."

(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Los Angeles, May 31, 1972)
